Oil Spill Update: Ralph Brennan is Committed to Fresh, Local Seafood.

The oil spill resulting from the sinking of BP Transocean deep water horizon oil rig is a major concern for the entire Gulf Coast area. At this time there are still many unknowns about the type of impact this oil will have on our coastline and the situation is ongoing.

Ralph Brennan Restaurant Group restaurants are working closely with state agencies such as the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals who monitor our state waters to ensure that we continue to serve the highest quality of Louisiana seafood that our customers have learned to expect from us.

Current projections show the oil will impact state waters east of the Mississippi River. To prepare for this, the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals and Department of Wildlife and Fisheries have issued precautionary closings of the commercial and recreational fisheries east of the Mississippi River, excluding Lake Maurapas, Lake Pontchartrain and Lake Borgne. Seafood will not be harvested from the areas that are closed.

Louisiana has 7,721 miles of tidal coastline. The area east of the Mississippi River, which is closed, is where 23 percent of the state’s total seafood harvests are landed. The west side of the river, which remains open, is where the remaining 77 percent of the harvests are landed. With 77 percent of our waters untouched, we are still able to serve you Louisiana seafood from waters that are clean and unaffected by the spill.

Many people are asking how they can help in this situation and one of the easiest ways to help is to continue to trust Ralph Brennan Restaurant Group restaurants, as you always have, to serve you the highest quality of fresh, local seafood.
